Frequently Asked Questions when booking a Newborn Photography session

If you're reading this and you're currently pregnant, congratulations! You may be thinking about capturing your newborn's first few weeks with a newborn photography session. Here are a few FAQs that I get asked a lot so I thought I would make it easier for you and make a blog post :)!

What makes Fox Cub Photography different to other photography services in the local area?

I provide both simple, natural poses using a studio beanbag and I also use a wide variety of props. I spend a lot of my time finding high-quality and unique props. The reason for this is because when I started my business, I thought, 'what type of photographs would I want for my newborn baby?' I love the natural, simplistic poses that beanbag posing can offer. However, I'm also quite a creative person and I know I'd like a photograph of my baby that is a little bit different to everyone else (but isn't too out there!). I have searched high and low for an array of headbands, mohair hats, wraps, flokati rugs, posing blankets and wooden props to make your session unique to you. During our consultation, we can discuss the colours and props that you would like in your newborn's photography session.

When is the best time to book a newborn photography session?

Newborn photography sessions are best booked while you are still pregnant. Why? Because I take a limited number of newborns per month and sessions get booked up fast. Most parents usually book after they've had their 20 week scan. From my initial consultation with you, whether its over the phone or through email, I'll pencil your due date into my diary and make sure there is a space even if your baby is early or overdue. To secure the session I ask for you to pay the session fee after our initial consultation as this will confirm and reserve your session.

I've already had my baby, is it too late?

No, not at all! Ideally, newborn session take place when your baby is around 7 - 14 days old. However, I have taken photographs of a prem baby at 5 weeks. So no, it doesn't matter if your little one is over the usual age bracket :)

How old does my newborn need to be to have the photography session?

Your newborn session ideally needs to take place when your baby is around 7-14 days old. That's when they'll happily sleep even if you undress and move them into different poses. Newborn safety is extremely important to me. I have attended newborn posing and safety courses and I am fully insured and a member of BANPAS.

How long does a newborn photography session take?

Each session is very much baby led and usually takes 3 - 4 hours (or up to 2 if you have booked a MINI photography session). During our consultations, we can discuss which colours, backgrounds and props you would like to use.

Where and when can I view the images of my baby?

After the photography session, I will pencil in a return viewing appointment before you leave. This will normally be 1-2 weeks after your photography session. The appointment is held in my studio, where you can view your photographs of your little one and look at the products and packages that I offer.

What type of products and packages do you offer?

My photography products and packages range from £8 - £530 depending on your budget. They range from USB images, prints, mounted prints, mounted framed prints, canvases & fabric photo books. Stylised sitter sessions (6-9 months) are complimentary if you have booked a newborn photography session with me.

If you would like to see individual prices or if you would like to book your newborn photography session, email hello@foxcubphotography.co.uk and I will get back to you as soon as possible.
